2011—A YEAR OF CHANGE

In Ron’s autobiography, LIFE’S HIGHEST DESIGN, he makes  the following observation, “Wise is the man who knows when God is opening a fresh phase of service; Spiritual is the man who recognizes when the previous phase is coming to an end.”  It was towards the end of 2010 that God spoke a word into our hearts that 2011 would be a year of change – that something very significant would take place which would redirect our ministry in the future.  As we “waited” for it to happen, we discovered that change was already taking place right before our eyes.

A CHANGE OF MINISTRY:  Though we continued to minister is a large number of churches, both here and outside the valley, the frequency of our travel became much more balanced.  Simultaneously, at the request of believers here in the Kern Valley, we focused our attention on the conducting of two verse by verse Bible study groups, which spent 6 months in Paul’s Letter to the Galatians.  Syllabi were prepared and much discussion resulted.  It is possible that additional study groups will be added in the very near future.  This allows us to remain at home where Lorretta is developing a personal business called, “LORRETTA’S HIGHEST CREATIONS” and, believe it or not, Ron spends a considerable amount of time in developing devotionals for facebook.  It is rewarding to see people, both believers and unbelievers, who “check in” each morning.  Some have found Jesus through it.  We have also joined the pastoral staff of the Kern Valley Christian Church, a wonderful, independent Charismatic congregation where we serve in the areas of Missions and Extension.

A CHANGE OF SCENERY:  Each year around our wedding anniversary in September, we travel to a place where one of us has never been. In past years, we have taken cruises to Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, as well as to minister in Sri Lanka, Philippines and Hong Kong.  This past year, we chose the Grand Canyon (Lorretta had never been there).  We traveled to Williams, AZ (see, they even named to town after us!) and took the train (Williams Flyer) to spend a couple of days at the Rim.  Earlier in the year we enjoyed a very special time in Colorado, ministering in Akron, CO, visiting friends in Loveland, and in Colorado Springs.  In September, Ron traveled to Chicago and Wisconsin to minister in the Heartland District’s Men's Gathering.

A CHANGE OF HEALTH:  In May, after years of agonizing pain, Lorretta underwent full replacement surgery on her left knee. According to both the doctor and her therapist, her recovery was remarkable.  Within a matter of days she was walking without a cane and now Ron has to run to keep up.  In November, Ron was diagnosed as having a mild form of Parkinson’s Disease which is being treated medicinally.  Whereas Lorretta’s recovery was “remarkable,” the neurologist announced that the MRI on Ron’s brain was “unremarkable.” In both cases, that meant that the test results were very positive.

A CHANGE OF PLANS:  Many have asked about the VINE AND THE BRANCHES, A SEQUEL.  Due to developments within the denomination, the Foursquare leadership has decided not to publish the history at this time.  It will be placed in the archives for reference.  On a positive note, Ron has signed an agreement with Xlibris Corporation regarding the self publishing of his autobiography, LIFE’S HIGHEST DESIGN.  It is the third of a trilogy of themes which God laid upon his heart many years ago.  It will come out in soft-, hard-cover and e-reader format in early 2012.  Meanwhile it can be downloaded from our website: www.lifeshighest.com. Click on the link called Publications/Writings.

BUT THERE ARE THINGS THAT NEVER CHANGE.  First of all, God’s faithfulness and provision for His people never change.  Second, the joy and celebration of Christ’s incarnation will forever bring eternal life to all who believe.  Third, the satisfaction of serving God’s people and teaching His Word remains ever fulfilling.  And finally, our love for, and privilege of having you as our friends forever, brings a hope beyond measure.

HAVE a “SON”-derful Christmas.
